Common Questions
-
What is a subscription?
An Autonomy subscription is a flexible vehicle-use agreement that lets you get a car without buying or leasing it. We own the car. You pay monthly and drive it for as long as you like, then give it back when you’re done.
-
Why a subscription?
This is a radically new way to get your next vehicle.
You’re NOT buying a car, which makes everything easier. You don’t need to hassle with negotiation, title, or registration, or worry about the small stuff, like routine maintenance.
We are NOT lending you money, which makes the contract simple and fully digital. You can even pay for your subscription entirely with your credit card.
-
What is the current wait time for an Autonomy car?
We currently are able to get customers into Model 3s THE NEXT DAY after they qualify.
If you have any questions or would like to check out our inventory, please call 1-800-AUTONOMY (800-288-6666)
- How do I subscribe?
-
Is my security deposit refundable?
In a word, yes. Your entire security deposit is completely refundable if you change your mind before activation, or at the end of your subscription if no other amounts are due.
-
What if I change my mind?
Autonomy is the freedom to choose what’s best for you. That’s literally why we started this company. If you decide you no longer want your vehicle before you pick it up activate your subscription, we’ll refund your entire payment, no questions asked. If you’ve arranged for delivery, we’ll issue a refund for everything but the delivery fee. If you’d like to remain in line for a different vehicle, we can keep your reservation deposit and you will be contacted when a vehicle matching your request becomes available. Simply give us a call at 1-800-AUTONOMY (800-288-6666) to cancel. Once issued, the refund will typically take five to seven business days to process. Please see Section 9(“Cancellation”) of the Subscription Terms of Service for more information on how to cancel your subscription after activation.
-
Why do I have to pay a start fee?
Think of it like a down payment (commonly called a “Cap. cost reduction” in traditional leases), which is one of the factors that helps lower the cost of your monthly payment. Choose the combination of start fee and monthly payment that is right for you; it’s all customizable.
-
Does Autonomy offer insurance coverage for my subscription vehicle?
If you meet our eligibility requirements, your subscription will include insurance that is underwritten by a third party, and it will be billed together with your monthly subscription fee. The cost will be determined by several personal factors, including your age, garaging address, and driving record. If you have questions, please call 1-800-AUTONOMY (800-288-6666) for assistance.
-
What if I don’t qualify for insurance through Autonomy?
If you're approved for subscription, but not eligible for insurance through Autonomy, you may still subscribe if you add our vehicle to your policy and provide proof of insurance that meets all of the following coverage requirements:
- Bodily Injury: $50,000 per person/$100,000 per accident
- Property damage $50,000 per accident
- Comprehensive & Collision $2,500 maximum deductible
- Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist: Minimum coverage Equal to the Bodily Injury Limits $50,000/ $100,000
Autonomy recommends adding $5,000 Medical Payments coverage, Rental Reimbursement, and a Towing & Labor endorsement to your auto policy.

-
What routine maintenance is covered?
Your Tesla EV subscription includes routine maintenance performed by authorized Autonomy service providers, like tire rotations, cabin air filter replacements, and component checkups.
As an electric vehicle, the Tesla Model 3 or Y don't require traditional oil changes, emission checks, fuel filters, or spark plug replacements. And thanks to regenerative braking that returns energy to the battery, even brake pad replacements are uncommon.
-
Is there a mileage limit?
Your Autonomy subscription includes 1,000 miles per month. So if you subscribe to a car for three months, your mileage allowance is 3,000 miles. Of course, if you need to drive more, that’s OK. Additional mileage will cost just $0.25 per mile.
-
How do I pay for my Autonomy subscription?
Making your monthly payments is easy with autopay. You’ll provide a credit card or a checking account during activation, and in states where it is permitted, your payment will be automatically deducted each month on the same date that your subscription started. In some cases, subscribers will be asked to provide a backup payment method as well.
-
Are these used cars?
Because Autonomy owns and registers the vehicles, they are classified as used cars. Though they may vary in mileage, all of our subscription vehicles are covered under warranty.
-
How long is the subscription?
Keep your Autonomy vehicle for a minimum of one month. After that, drive it for as long as you like, or return it by giving us a two week advance notice.
-
What’s included in an Autonomy subscription?
Your subscription includes:
- Vehicle registration.
- 1,000 miles per month.

- Insurance coverage (eligibility required)
*Current Tesla Policy does not allow subscribers to utilize enhanced autopilot or full self-driving capabilities*
